About Katie

I’ve spent my career designing and leading programs where the stakes are real — for participants, for staff, and for the organizations responsible for them.

While in college, I began facilitating team-building programs and leading outdoor adventures at Appalachian State University, where I earned my bachelor’s in Recreation Management with a concentration in Outdoor Experiential Education.

I continued at Appalachian State to complete a master’s in Student Development, with a concentration in College Outdoor Programs Administration, focusing on how programs function within larger institutional systems.

After graduate school, I joined the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where I built University Recreation's Outdoor Pursuits program from the ground up. That experience gave me my first opportunity to shape a collegiate program at a structural level — designing systems, training staff, and helping establish a program built to grow sustainably.

I later returned to Appalachian State as the university's Camp Broadstone coordinator, leading large-scale team building programs and teaching academic courses in ropes course facilitation, leadership and group dynamics.

At Asheville School, I spent three years redesigning and expanding the school’s outdoor and leadership programs. During that time, I designed orientation programs, launched student leadership initiatives, and helped the school offer meaningful and consistent outdoor experiences while navigating pandemic challenges.

I then joined Park City Community Church in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, where I created both a middle school leadership program and Joyride, a social justice–focused youth travel program. Alongside that work, I built Summer Adventure Camp designed to offer young people formative experiences grounded in leadership, community, and reflection.

Across these roles, I became known for helping programs become more clear, cohesive, and sustainable — by helping leaders align with their mission, clarify their direction, and focus on what matters most.
